One wedding at a time

From family farm to wedding venue

The Oakwood sits among meadows of greenery and wildflowers outside the village of Ryther, on the site of our generations-old family farm. The haybarn, the grain store and the old farm buildings are now a ceremony hall, a reception barn and a house for thirty of your favourite people, all set around one courtyard.

  • 2 weddings a week, Thursdays and Saturdays
  • 150 guests for the ceremony and breakfast
  • 250 guests in the evening
  • 30 staying in the house for two nights

We hold weddings on Thursdays and Saturdays only, so we have time to get to know you, and nobody else’s day ever runs alongside yours.

The old haybarn is now a grand space for your vows, framed by hand-crafted oak arches, with reclaimed brick, a York stone floor and a curtain of fairy lights at the end of the aisle.

The hall, the barn and the house all open onto one courtyard, with heaters and festoon lights for the evening. Beyond it are wildflower meadows and the lavender walk with its timber frames.

Two nights, three days

Your wedding, spread out

Arrive the day before, marry, and wake up here the morning after. The house, the hall and the barn are yours the whole time.

  1. The Oakwood at dusk, lights on, with ornamental grasses in the foreground

    Check in from 3pm

    The day before

The house is yours from three o’clock, and so are the Ceremony Hall and the Old Grain Store, so you can set up with your coordinator rather than leave it all to the morning. In the evening there is the kitchen island to gather round with your closest people.

  2. A just-married couple walking back up the aisle of the Ceremony Hall

    Until midnight

    Your wedding day

Get ready in the prep room, marry in the Ceremony Hall or outside, and spend the drinks reception in the courtyard. Then down the staircase into the Old Grain Store for the wedding breakfast, with live music until midnight.

  3. The Oakwood seen across the lawn on a bright day

Check out at 10am or 11am

    The morning after

No taxis at midnight and no early start. You wake up where you married, with your favourite people still under the same roof, and check out at 10am after a Thursday wedding or 11am after a Saturday.

How the three days work

Accommodation

No two rooms the same

Fourteen bedrooms in the house, each one designed differently and each with its own en-suite, for up to 30 adults across both nights. The bridal suite has a dressing room and its own balcony, and the kitchen island is where everyone gathers the night before.

In their words

“From the moment we arrived, everything felt calm, welcoming, and beautifully organised. The setting is stunning, peaceful, and immaculately cared for, creating an atmosphere that feels both elegant and relaxed throughout the entire day.”
