The Oakwood at Ryther

Spaces and grounds

Around one courtyard

The Ceremony Hall, the Old Grain Store and the house sit around a single courtyard, with the meadows and the lavender walk beyond. Here is each of them, and what it used to be.

The Ceremony Hall

Seats up to 150

The old haybarn is now a grand space for your vows, framed by hand-crafted oak arches that form the heart of the building. Reclaimed bricks sit against the natural tones of a York stone floor, and the statement globe pendants overhead are panelled with wooden slats from the original farm building.

At the end of the aisle hangs a curtain of fairy lights. It needs very little added to it, though there is plenty of room if you would like to.

  • Cross-back wooden chairs
  • Statement lighting and the fairy light curtain
  • A built-in sound system
  • Tables for signing the register, and for cards and gifts

“The hall where our ceremony had such a warm feel to it with the fairy light drop … I will never forget seeing my husband at the end of the aisle in front of those lights waiting for me.”

The Old Grain Store

150 for the wedding breakfast, 250 in the evening

The grain store’s original wooden beams and exposed brickwork have been carefully restored, and now sit alongside soft ceiling drapes and statement chandeliers. This is where the wedding breakfast and the evening happen.

A grand staircase of natural wood and glass leads up to a cocktail lounge overlooking the bar and the dance floor, so guests can take a breather without leaving the party. Below it, the large granite-topped bar is run by our own team.

  • Bespoke upholstered chairs
  • Trestle or round tables
  • Cake, cards and gift tables
  • Uplighters and mood lighting
  • Light-up cocktail tables and chairs
  • Wireless microphones
  • Glassware throughout the day

“The reception hall was stunning too with the draped ceilings and chandeliers, plenty of space for tables and dancing, and having the mezzanine upstairs too meant guests could take a little break themselves without coming away from the event.”

03At the centre of it all

The Courtyard

The Ceremony Hall, the Old Grain Store and the house all open onto one courtyard. It is where your guests gather for the drinks reception, where outdoor ceremonies take place, and where evening receptions carry on outside.

There is outside heating and outdoor furniture, and festoon lights for when the sun goes down.

04The farm’s meadows

The Grounds

Beyond the courtyard are meadows of greenery and wildflowers, and the lavender walk with its run of timber frames. It is made for photographs, and the frames give you somewhere to stand for group shots even if it rains.

05Yours for two nights

The house

Fourteen bedrooms for up to 30 adults, an open-plan kitchen and living space, the bridal suite and the prep room, all a short walk across the courtyard from the party.
