Questions and answers
Good questions
The things couples ask us most, about exclusive use, staying over, food and drink, and the day itself. If yours is not here, ask us.

Exclusive use and dates
Is The Oakwood exclusive use?
Yes. We hold one wedding at a time, and the Ceremony Hall, the Old Grain Store, the courtyard and the house are yours from check-in the day before your wedding until check-out the morning after.
When do you have weddings?
Thursdays and Saturdays. We only hold two weddings a week, so we can take the time to get to know every couple.
How many guests can we invite?
Weddings have a minimum of 50 guests. The Ceremony Hall and the Old Grain Store each seat up to 150, and you can have up to 250 guests in the evening.
Can we come and look around?
Of course. Send us an enquiry and we will find a time to show you round, and keep an eye on our Instagram for our open evenings, when the venue is dressed and our suppliers are here.
Your stay
Do you have accommodation on site?
Yes, we have a large house on site with 14 bedrooms, that can sleep up to 30 adults. You will have the accommodation for two nights so you can fully settle in to your time at the Oakwood.
How many nights stay do we get?
Two nights per wedding: the night before and the night of your wedding.
What time can we arrive, and when do we leave?
Check in is from 3pm the day before your wedding. Check out is at 10am after a Thursday wedding and 11am after a Saturday wedding.
Can we set up the day before?
Yes. The Ceremony Hall and the Old Grain Store are open to you from check-in the day before, so you can set up with your coordinator.
Is there somewhere to get ready?
Yes. The prep room is set aside for the morning of your wedding, with large free-standing mirrors, a champagne fridge and table, a sink, a sofa and bar stools for styling. The bridal suite also has a large dressing room.
Can our guests share the cost of the rooms?
Yes. You can share the cost of the accommodation by dividing up the 13 bedrooms and charging your guests individually.
Is the house suitable for little ones?
There are two travel cots and two high chairs in the house for you to use.
Food and drink
Can we use external catering?
Yes, we use 5 external companies that you can choose from! They are The Hog and Apple Food Co., Dom’s Kitchen, Good Food Story, Outside Kitchen and Bar, and Nomad Catering by James Brown. All of them have worked at The Oakwood before, and they will tailor a menu to your style and taste.
Who runs the bar?
Our own in-house bar team. In the months before your wedding we invite you to a wine tasting, where we put together a bespoke drinks package with you.
Ceremonies
Can we marry outside?
Yes. As well as the Ceremony Hall, the courtyard and grounds can be used for outdoor ceremonies.
Who do we book our registrar with?
North Yorkshire Registrars, at ceremonies@northyorks.gov.uk. If you would prefer a celebrant, we recommend Deborah at True To You Celebrancy.
On the day
Can we bring our dog to the wedding?
Yes, you are more than welcome to have your dog at your wedding! We allow for dogs to join you for your ceremony and drinks reception, they just need to leave for the wedding breakfast onwards. Our onsite accommodation is not dog friendly.
